Facelift vs Neck Lift Surgery
If you are considering a lift to combat the signs of ageing, you might be wondering whether a facelift, a neck lift, or a combination of the two is right for you. The facelift is one of the most familiar cosmetic procedures. Neck lift surgery is less familiar to most people in the UK, although it is often combined with the facelift procedure.
Both procedures:
Remove excess or sagging skin
Help to smooth out wrinkles
Can be tailored to your needs
However, there are some important differences between the two procedures.
Facelift Surgery
Although there are several different forms of facelift used at UK clinics, the procedure generally involves making incisions around the hairline and next to the ears. The skin is pulled up from the cheeks towards the forehead. Excess skin is removed and the tightened skin is then stitched into place. After the procedure you should see an improvement in your cheeks, around your mouth and along your jaw. The skin should look tighter and wrinkles should be reduced.
Neck Lift Surgery
During neck lift surgery in the UK, incisions are usually made behind the ears and underneath the jaw, where the scars should be well hidden. As with the facelift, the skin below the incisions is then lifted and stitched into place after any excess has been removed. Neck lift surgery targets loose skin below the chin. After the procedure, the skin around your chin, jaw and neck should be tighter and smoother. The recovery time for a neck lift can be a little quicker than for a facelift. It can also be a better option if you want to look younger while avoiding surgery on your face.
Which Lift Is Right For You?
The main question to ask when deciding whether facelift or neck lift surgery is right for you, is where you would like to see the effects. Your surgeon can help you to decide which areas you should target and will explain how the procedure can be tailored to your needs. You should also discuss the differences in recovery time, scar location, and other aspects of the procedures with your doctor.
